Leadville

Written by Kara @ 13:15

B and I headed up to Leadville with Tuck Sunday after camping in Wolcott Saturday night (I had a wedding at Cordillera – blog post to follw).  The colors were beautiful as we drove up 24. It was a great day – leisurely drive, 4-hour 8-mile hike up to 12,000 ft., finished off by “linner” (lunch.dinner) and a couple beers at an old saloon in Leadville, which is incidentally the highest incorporated city in the U.S. A lil’ Colorado trivia for y’all.

I love fall.

Saturday Fail

Written by Kara @ 15:46

Saturday, B and I woke up all excited to spend time outdoors, go on a hike and soak up the sunshine. We ate a big breakfast and headed up I-70. Well, once we got to our new hiking trail past Evergreen, we realized – oh yeah – it may be 70º in Denver, but it’s still winter here with 2 feet of snow. Since we didn’t bring our snowshoes, we found another trail that this woman was just coming off of.

I would much rather be on a horse on that trail – it was mud central. We hiked for 10 minutes and it was not fun … at all. So down to Denver we went. Then we’re watching Episode 11 of Season 3 Mad Men. If you watch it, you know what I’m talking about when I say Betty was in the middle of confronting Don about his box … AND OUR DVD FROZE. Wouldn’t play. at. all.

So then, we went to Herman’s Hideaway to see our friend Adam’s band Brother’s O’Hair – who rocked it by the way. I mean seriuosly rocked it. They are playing the Hi-Dive April 21, make sure you go. Anywho, B and I had just gotten drinks, found a table and as we sit down, B moves the table and our drinks go crashing to the ground. But really, should the night have ended differently? Ah, oh well, there’s always next Saturday, I guess.

Ruedi from the sky

Written by Kara @ 07:52

I went on a hike up over Ruedi Reservoir – just what I needed after working 50 hours in 4 days. So, rode with Tucker in the backseat of John’s Jeep, freezing our asses off, at 8 in the morning for an hour up to Basalt and the Frying Pan Road. But it was totally worth it. Four hours later, Alyssa, John and I were back in the Jeep, refreshed, tired and hungry. What a great Sunday.

Hiking with some chicas

Written by Kara @ 16:35

So the sports reporter and I had an assignment to go on a hike with a women’s hiking group. We brought along Tucker and Gunner to get them some exercise. What a blast! It was one of those assignments where I thought – I love my job. Hiking along a river, chatting with the gals and shooting pictures – and it was early in the morning so it wasn’t even hot yet! Plus the scenery was beautiful. Just happy to have one of those starts to the day that puts you in a great mood.
