Taking a Break
Although I haven’t kept up on blogging, I am finally photographing families and newborn portraits during COVID again after a forced two month break! All my large weddings have been postponed to 2021, so I am loving slower Saturdays this summer. Filling them with hikes and lots of outdoor time.
Luckily, I was able to photograph this sweet baby girl before quarantine happened. Baby Charlotte is no longer a newborn anymore. I just delivered her album and it is the cutest! It has a linen cover that matches her outfit perfectly.
Stress-Free Newborn Portraits
I adore doing newborn lifestyle portraits at home because your home holds so many memories, even more so now after quarantine! One of my favorite things to observe during a session is the way parents are getting to know their new baby. Each baby has such a different personality, and learning that is so important as a parent. Do you have a chill baby, a FOMO baby, an impatient baby, an observer?
Newborn sessions, and especially newborn portraits during COVID, can feel so stressful in the moment. It’s especially hard if your newborn is hungry and unhappy, and it can seem like all they did was fuss. But guess what? That’s rarely so, and that’s often how newborns are! They cry, sleep, eat and poop – often times all within 10 minutes. Luckily, I don’t need a long stretch of happy baby time. I love real life where mom is cuddling baby, or dad is singing to calm him down. Those moments make beautiful photographs.
How I’m Being Safe During COVID With Newborn Photography
With newborn portraits during COVID, I am wearing a mask, taking my temperature, lots of hand washing and making sure to remain socially distanced as much as possible. I wash all swaddles or blankets between sessions.
Also, I am continuing to be safe in my personal life – staying home, wearing masks and enjoying a lot of time outside and at home. I know COVID and these restrictions won’t last forever, and of course number one priority is keeping my clients safe and healthy!
